  • Casino algorithms

Game belongs in a casino. You'll be gridlocked at around 50% win ratio. Every time you feel good you'll play a deck with an unbeatable set of cards. Uninstalled after 5 straight games vs the same exact deck combination, switch my cards only to play another combo of the same thing. Algorithm will find what is your kryptonite. Then that's all you'll see for days on end while you get advertised promotionals

*Update Review* Really makes me sad to see how much supercell as a company has declined over the years. They focus on the money making “pay to play” and aesthetics over game balance and quality. Who care about banners/badges/emotes. To be honest they’ve done wayyyy to much to this game. It’s impossible to balance. In addition Clash of clans is beyond bad now. Brawl stars ended its run years ago. And this game is nothing more than a poop game. It has a following but most clans are dead and people play solo. Streamers for this game are cringe and Its hard to watch. I give it a shot every year or so for a month but always regret it. Don’t stress yourself out by playing this game competitively. Because the algorithm will shut you down eventually. If it’s not that it’s the pure rng and lack of skill of the many cards that simply counter your deck. Don’t waste your time and play something fair and fun.

Every time I’m in a battle I can have full connection and yet it says no connection and I can’t play any cards. It is very annoying and I keep falling back in trophies because of it. Other than that a very fun game that I enjoy playing with friends.
  • 7 Years in and so many fundamental problems

Hello Supercell, community, and new players. —————— I used to be a huge fan of this game (it still holds sentimental value of course). I was active from the iOS launch until about 2 years ago when life got too busy. I ran a very successful clan for 4 years that reached the top 200 in the USA. I reached rankings individually as well. Not by any small feat does any clan or player reach rankings. I’ve got a lot of experience and a foundation to talk about this game from. I’d say that I am experienced in every facet of the game (including in how to spend too much money). —————— To begin, I’ll start with some praise for the game. This game is still so much more accessible and fun than almost any other smartphone game I can think of. It definitely beats out the accessibility of other Supercell games. It has a unique play style and so many different ways to play the game. Sadly, upon returning to the game from a 2 year break I find that the game still has the same fundamental problems that it did from very early on. —————— The first I’ll suggest is a major lack of balance. This game has over 100 unique cards. Yet from the beginning certain cards and strategies have been so overpowered because of either stats or mechanics that 7 years later people are still copying decks invented in years 1 and 2. This is a major problem. How much fun can anyone be having when they either only find success using the same old deck (that they did not create themselves) or annoyingly have to lose to other players (who you know copied the deck). That just isn’t fun for either player involved. Yet the same scenario will keep repeating because the deck copiers have a hard time finding success any other way because the game is completely unbalanced. Which leads to more deck copiers which perpetuates and compounds the problem. And this fundamental problem takes away the possible diversity and unique strategies that could arise from having over 100 cards to choose from. Instead allowing for only a couple of successful strategies and a very small number of cards that everyone will be seeing over and over again. It’s boring. And the opposite of fun. Only the devs can fix this problem. —————— The second fundamental problem is this: the game is also unbalanced because of its huge diversity in cards. With over 100 cards to use, it is completely impossible to make any deck that can account for even most of the other decks or strategies it might come up against. This means that a lot of matches come down to the luck of who you get matched up against instead of skill. Which leads right into the 3rd fundamental problem. There is a matchmaking system and it is rigged. This 3rd one is a little bit conspiratory. But after years of experience with the matchmaking system it’s almost impossible to ignore this feeling that you get when playing with a single deck for multiple games that you’re being matched up against the same types of decks over and over again. If you switch decks then you’ll find yourself getting matched up against different decks but they will soon become monotonous again. There have even been many occasions where I’ve played the same person two or three times in a row. And that should be virtually impossible. I’ll leave this one at that. It could just be coincidence, but if it’s not please fix this developers. I would understand the need for a pity system because bad players do exist and we don’t want them to experience losing over and over again. It would make sense that every few games they lose they should be matched up against someone with a deck that stands no chance to theirs. But please make matchmaking be based on complete randomness instead of any engine that decides who gets to play who—————— The next fundamental problem I will mention is regarding clans. This is something Supercell as a game developer has continued to fail at and ignore for the last 11 years. Starting with clans: from the beginning this game has hindered the ability of its players to participate in and run clans. Which is really a missed opportunity because one of the best things this game could have been doing from the start is helping people build relationships with the online community of players they interact with. The game is 7 years old now and still has the same basic clan functions as it had from the start. No improvements, no new additions (except to add micro transaction products to the clans). As a player that ran a very successful clan for years and probably was in charge hundreds of players over that period of time, this needs to change and players have been calling for change for years. In both the Supercell games I’ve played, everyone relies on outside resources to be able to run clans and actually communicate in a clear and concise way. I am not going to offer ideas for what it should be changed to (unless Supercell wants to reach out for opinions). There are many ways Supercell could go about making changes to anything I’ve discussed so far and other places have already put forth many ideas. Supercell just needs to actually do something about it. —————— Lastly, I will mention river races. Early on this game focused on separating itself from clash of clans. River race was part of that separation. I cannot think of anything more boring about the game than river races. It needs more variety to it, more random chance perhaps. Aside from being boring, it actually punishes any clan that doesn’t have 50/50 players participating (which is extremely hard to keep up week by week). Aside from clans, it punishes individual players for not having max level cards. The difference between 1 level of card let alone 2 or 3 is drastic. This punishes new and returning players in river races and ranked matches. This is a huge problem for the game and is one way that copying Clash of Clan’s level system is actively harming the game. —————— Thank you for reading this far. I will continue hoping that this game will improve in these areas.
