The best app which I’ve already used. I’m learning English with Babbel about 4 months and I can say: I’m learning a lot. The review option is amazing. One tip for developers, please guys add a search field to vocabulary and one option to generate a certification.

Babbel’s lessons are a great way to get yourself headed in the right direction. I personally love the live classes. They have them 24 hours a day, they are very intimate, and they put you on the spot and test you. They hardly speak in your native language and it’s uncomfortable but its what i need to be immersed to learn.

The Babble app works well for learning a new language but you have to march to Babble’s drum and learning agenda. It may or may not cover specific phrases that you want to learn. I wish it would support more “self guidance” over what to cover and let me define or select phrases I might use. I’m going to Italy for a two week vacation and wanted to learn some greetings and phrases, but Babble decides what you get to learn and how. The app is making me spell out Italian phrases that Babble chooses and which have no relevance to me. I’m not looking to write a novel in Italian, just speak some common phrases, so it feels like I’m wasting time trying to spell-out Italian words I will not use like spelling out the phrase that is asking for directions to the “Tobacco Shop”. I don’t smoke. I am more interested in asking for “directions to a public restroom” or “directions to a restaurant or hotel or museum” and I want to say these phrases, not write about them.

I’ve only been using Babbel for a couple of weeks, but it’s been very helpful in learning and pronouncing Spanish. I do wish the verb conjugations were presented a bit differently in the initial lesson for each. That’s okay though, I bought a notebook to write them down in a way that’s easier for me to memorize, and to look back on.
